Leading a Coherent Path for Sustainable Growth in Learning
To create a meaningful context for leading districtwide systemic improvement, an appropriate analogy is the layered structure of an onion with scale leaves that protect and provide nutrients for the central bud from which roots germinate to support annual growth. Each layer of the onion emanates from the central bud, and then by design, life-sustaining resources flow back from the outer layers through the inner layers to the central bud. A parallel system exists in a school district wherein student learning supports are structured as nested levels connecting individual classrooms to school sites and district systems.
