Our ideal school board is wise enough to understand that effective citizenship within any community relies on the literacy of its citizens. In addition, board members understand that the nature of literacy has changed dramatically since their pen and paper days. This chapter addresses the issue of literacy in the Digital Age and how to best prepare students—as well as teachers, administrators, and the public—for the shifts in literacy that are upon us.
