Educating students about digital citizenship is of course the heart of this book. Incorporating digital citizenship lessons organically into the fabric of daily lessons is probably the most effective approach, but as we discussed in the previous chapter, this approach requires teachers to be educated and comfortable with the concepts of digital citizenship first. As Common Sense Education’s Kelly Mendoza has noted, effective digital citizenship education also requires educators to take an interest in their students’ digital lives and understand the role that digital tools play.
