Technological Literacy Defined
We define technological literacy as using reading, writing, speaking, and listening in multimedia venues to create products and to demonstrate learning. Accessing, using, and creating technology-based tools and strategies promote multidimensional thinking and allow for various products across all the content areas and literacies.
The critical factors in technological literacy include the following:
- Questioning authenticity. Applying criteria to establish credibility of the author and the website; and detecting assumptions, purpose, and clarity
- Searching for information. Using the structure of the web-based information to find what you need, to demonstrate dimensional or embedded thinking, and to solve problems
- Media orientation. Determining the best method for the product you must produce or meaning you must convey
