It was flattering to be asked by Rob, Leslie, and Ken to participate in this volume by offering our views on dialogue. We have been involved in work aimed at understanding and applying dialogue; we have worked together at two universities where our research, teaching, and consulting practices have benefited from friendship and professional collaboration on a number of levels; and we have had—until this chapter emerged as a writing project—a shared set of under-articulated ideas about dialogue that informs our thinking and activities in the world.
