Abstract

This chapter examines the ethical dimension of counselling and psychotherapy. The underlying values of counselling and psychotherapy are outlined. Some principles of good professional practice are then described. Finally, the therapist's sensitivity to the ethical aspects of the client's presenting problems is discussed. Research-informed examples are used as appropriate.

Before we focus on the practical skills of conducting therapy, we will look at some of the principles of a safe and sound practice and the ethical dimension of therapeutic work.
