The emphasis is on research-informed developments within or across the distinct theoretical approaches (psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, humanistic and integrative). Psychotherapy is a healing activity that attempts to alleviate human suffering. It uses psychological means to influence psychopathological symptoms, problematic experiencing, behaviour, and personality characteristics as well as general functioning in life (see Kratochvíl, 2002).
