Introduction: The goal and organisation of the text

This book is dedicated to counselling and psychotherapy1 trainees as well as to trainee counselling and clinical psychologists and psychiatrists. The book has two goals:

(1) to provide research-informed suggestions of how to conduct psychotherapy; and (2) to present them in a generic form so they can be used by trainees with different theoretical preferences. There are quite a number of introductory texts on psychotherapy and counselling, as well as many more advanced books on specific approaches to therapy.
