This part of the book presents skills used by therapists of different orientations and information on many of them gathered by empirical investigations. The skills are presented in a coherent system, but the reader should bear in mind that it is done so for didactic purposes. They do not need to be used in the order in which they are presented in this book. Also, their use depends on a particular case conceptualisation and the therapeutic strategy stemming from that conceptualisation.

The focus is on the skills and attitudes of the therapist that contribute to the building of a good therapeutic relationship (Chapter 2) and the ethical aspects of therapeutic work (Chapter 4). ...
