The involvement of pupils in the assessment and management of their own learning needs is an area of development which has seen some progress in more recent years. Since the implementation of the Education Act 1993 and the subsequent publication of the Code of Practice 1994, schools have had to make concerted efforts to readdress their approaches to the management of special educational needs. An area of the revised Code of Practice 2001 which has received less attention is that of pupils’ own direct involvement in the assessment and learning process.
