A few years ago there used to be a television advertisement for a national newspaper the theme of which may serve to illustrate the present point. The camera shows a skinhead running along the street. The next shot is of a lone woman in a doorway. The meaning is obvious, she is about to be attacked. The youth runs past her and the camera shows a businessman a little way ahead. Clearly he is to be mugged.
