Like any other human relationship psychodynamic counselling is a context where sexuality and sexual material may make themselves felt. Being comfortable with sexual matters and with your own sexuality are important aspects of the counsellor's presence in the room. While our understanding of transference and, of course, counter-transference leads us to expect the appearance of sexual material in the client's discourse, we may be taken off guard when it actually appears.
