This ten-session program improves adolescent girls' confidence, self-esteem and self-awareness, encouraging students to develop problem-solving strategies about peer pressure, sex, substance abuse, and being a parent.
Session 3: Self-Esteem and Positive Thinking
The facilitator can outline the main aims of this session as follows:
- For students to be able to identify their own levels of self-esteem and to understand the concept of self-esteem.
- For students to understand how what others say can affect our self-esteem and levels of confidence.
- For students to understand the importance of motivation and positive thinking.
The facilitator will be aware that there are many definitions of self-esteem and none is definitive. However, it may be helpful to make reference to the California Task Force to Promote Self-esteem's 1990 definition as follows:
‘Appreciating my own worth and importance and being accountable for myself and my responsibilities towards others.’
