Chronic health problems are frequently associated with depression. We focus on three examples: the association of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia with depression. We do not attempt to discuss all of the chronic health problems that are associated with depression, however, for that would take us far beyond the scope of this brief volume. We begin with a case study regarding the association of cardiovascular disease and depression, and we discuss some relevant assessment issues. Then we present discussions regarding cardiovascular disease, cancer, and dementia.
