The creation and proliferation of sex offender registration and community notification laws are a recent occurrence in the area of American criminal justice. Such laws, often known as a “Megan's Law,” appear to be the result of the confluence of several powerful and disturbing factors.1 This chapter seeks to explore this phenomenon in more detail.
