Maria was a 35-year-old Laguna Pueblo woman who was referred by an Arizona Victims' Assistance program. Maria had witnessed a robbery and shooting. The robbers followed her to her apartment and shot her in the face. The bullet went through her left cheek and lodged itself in her right cheek bone.
