This novel and important book brings together insights from cultural studies and critical discourse analysis to examine the fruitful links between the two. In this chapter we will be outlining a version of CDA with which we have sympathy. This exposition has two main aims. First, and locally within this book, we want to draw up a set of tools for the analysis of the data in Chapters 4, 5 and 6. The discussion aims to generate a discourse-analytic ‘tool-kit’ that we can draw upon to demonstrate how constructions of realities are achieved within our data.
