In my mind, creativity can be promoted by conscious efforts to break the habitual processes people adopt in organizations. Make sure that everyone gets involved regardless of their job title or function. Make sure that different ways of thinking and approaching problems are encouraged. Vary the availability of resources. It also helps, in my judgment, to surprise people at the outset with unexpected approaches to the situations they are being asked to respond to. This helps a manager put a little “walk” behind the “talk” associated with improving creativity.
