A colleague recently recounted with dismay her experience at a cancer seminar several years ago. Apparently, the seminar leader, after presenting information on cancer risk factors, distributed a risk survey to participants. After it was scored, the presenter interpreted the meaning of several score ranges (e.g., 0–10 or 10–20). This colleague, whose score was considerably higher than the ranges offered to the audience, confronted the presenter at the end of the seminar and inquired about her individual risk.
