This chapter highlights two definitions of “evidence-based counseling in schools.” A user-friendly table to highlight evidence-based counseling approaches, including those reviewed in Chapter 5 (psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused techniques), is presented below in Table 6.1. A set of easy-to-navigate websites is presented (see Resource D) to help clinicians find programs that target specific mental health challenges faced within their district. In addition, examples of specific counseling techniques with strong empirical evidence for their use at Level 1, Level 2, and/or Level 3 within a PBIS/RTI service delivery model in schools are reviewed later in the chapter within Table 6.2.
