Although most researchers have been convinced that the effectiveness of psychotherapy has been firmly established, others argue that research designs are flawed and that no satisfactory evidence yet exists. Psychotherapy is one of the most researched and scrutinized health care procedures ever invented, and this chapter will argue that there is a great deal of evidence indicating that it is effective. This chapter attempts to summarize the debate issue and argues that, from the perspective of scientific inquiry, psychotherapy has shown itself to be an efficacious and effective health care intervention.
