On August 3, 1960, Mr. Charles Joseph Mourey, a white male, age 56, came to Miami on vacation from his job as a butler for Ms. Hope Hampton of Park Avenue in New York. Mr. Mourey was a homosexual who had a preference for “frisky young men,” according to his employer.
On August 10, 1960, a witness living at 553 North Biscayne River Drive heard six gunshots and shortly thereafter observed an old model blue vehicle, possibly a Chrysler, leave the area at a high rate of speed. Uniform officers responded to the call and discovered Mr. Mourey lying in the dirt road at that location.
