This chapter identifies the major axes of conflicts and tensions within the cultural realm, among cultural operators and policy–makers. It describes the interests and behaviors of various extended constituencies that are implicated or involved in such conflicts and describes how globalization accentuates discord. The primary tension identified is between the commercial interests of the cultural industry and non–commercial artistic creativity.
