The aim of the Middle Stage of CBC is to help the client change those of his beliefs and images which are largely responsible for his emotional disturbance and self-defeating pattern of behaviour. The Middle Stage marks a shift from assessing and conceptualising the problems and setting goals and alternative beliefs, which were the focus of the Beginning Stage, to doing the actual work that will produce the belief changes necessary for a therapeutic outcome.
