This book examines children's experiences and perspectives on living with domestic violence. It offers a detailed explanation of the impact on children living with domestic violence, how children make sense of and cope with their experiences, the response they receive from various agencies and the fit between what children feel they need and what in reality they receive. In the last three chapters, we heard accounts from and about children living with domestic violence, putting their experiences in context, and considered how children react and survive. In this chapter and the next, we look at issues concerning children's relationships with their parents, first mothers and then fathers, both from children's own perspectives and also drawing on the interviews with 24 mothers in our sample.
