There are two steps to developing our understanding of charismatic leadership in organizations. The first step, which we accomplished in the last chapter, involves the development of a formal conceptual framework. The framework identifies the construct of charismatic leadership by defining it, describing its contents or its various components, and linking it to its antecedent and consequence conditions in a way that explains the entire process underlying the phenomenon. This step was taken in the previous chapter, where we presented a behavioral model of charismatic leadership, the Conger-Kanungo model.
