Arriving at Secondary School

First-year students arriving at secondary school enter a totally new culture. The differences between primary and secondary schools are so great that it is less a process of transition than of sudden culture change. These differences include the following:

  • Primary schools tend to be small and secondary schools to be large. Even where a secondary school is comparatively small, it is most likely to be much bigger than the school a student previously attended.
  • Secondary schools tend to be more rule bound, curriculum driven, and impersonal than primary schools.
