In this chapter, we present and discuss the purposes of assessments and the importance of properly assessing number sense in mathematics. We briefly discuss four common assessments used to evaluate number sense and provide examples of each. Additionally we discuss the importance of conducting error analysis procedures to pinpoint student error patterns to guide instruction.
