Building Community-Developed Coalitions: A Practical Approach
Many models exist for coalition building, and many African American communities across the United States have decided to support and engage in community-based partnerships as a foundation for their collaborative efforts. Other organizations have worked to glean narratives and stories from across the country describing various process steps in organizing communities to engage in tasks designed to improve the quality of life of local residents.
Recently, some organizations, such as the HealthCare Forum, have formed a compendium of Best Practices in Creating Healthier Communities and Populations (Johnson et al., 1996).
