Communities of Color Respond to Environmental Threats to Health: The Environmental Justice Framework
Environmental hazards pose serious health threats in many ethnic minority and low-income communities in general, and in African American communities in particular. Substantial evidence has been documented to show that communities of color are exposed to a disproportionate amount of environmental hazards. This translates into greater health risks for ethnic minority and low-income citizens. The differential distribution of environmental hazards and health burdens has given birth to an environmental justice movement that seeks to galvanize people of color to fight the inequities that affect their health status and quality of life.
