Situating Complexity: The Body (Nude)
In a postmodern reflection, this chapter explores why the ‘body’ may be the last stable category still available for analysis. Loyal to the theme of ‘local truth(s)’, the reflections are grounded in a series of conceptual but also personal meditations on the representations of the body (drawings) found in the author's direct surroundings. The artist of these drawings of the female nude offers in this chapter her commentary. The author explores the limits of connectionism or radical complexity theory as a way of looking at the ‘nudes’, and assert the merit of unstable paradoxical logics of perception. Drawing is conceived of as emblematic of a dynamic logic of (non-)self.
