Introduction
Over the years, thousands of people have been displaced in Central Africa,1 but contrary to a widely held belief, the majority of them were not displaced by conflicts and famines, but by development and conservation projects. These projects do not evict people and/or destroy their livelihoods deliberately, but achieve a ‘greater good’ wherein displacement is considered as an unavoidable social cost.
