This book is a course text for teaching assistants. It aims to help students make the transition into undergraduate level study. It is also a teaching and learning resource for students and tutors on undergraduate programs.

Assessment will take place at various points of your course, and will take different forms. In this chapter we look at three forms of assessment commonly used on courses designed for teaching assistants: written assignments such as essays; presentations; and portfolios.

The reason for including a chapter on assessment criteria in this book is that there are certain ways of approaching these assessment tasks that are likely to help you to be more successful. What we hope to do is give you some ideas that you can try out in practice.
