In this chapter we will explore what assessment is about from a digital vantage point, consider priorities for learners, changes in literacy and efforts at leveraging technology to provide a broadened landscape for assessment. We will also highlight how multi-modal performances call for moves away from print-dependent criteria and standards, and provide opportunities for digital exemplars to show quality in ways not previously possible.

In the twenty-first century, statements of criteria and standards continue to have a key role to play in promoting quality and more effective learning.
