Volume 1 of this book portrayed various conceptions of personality development and psychosocial development during adulthood. Subsequent chapters in Volume 2 apply these concepts to important aspects of adult life: careers, intimate relations and marriage, sexual attitudes and behavior, sex roles, political and religious values, mental abilities, and adaptation to aging. For each of these topics, my emphasis is on developmental concerns, or the changing nature of the phenomenon across the 50 or more years of adulthood. The chapter-length coverage of each of these aspects also permits further investigation of the validity and applicability of the theories presented in the first volume.
