Controversial Behavioral Addictions
Chapters 16 through 21 are not included in DSM-5. One or more of these might eventually be recognized as behavioral addictive disorders in the DSM system, but, currently, there is insufficient evidence for their inclusion. Nonetheless, a great deal of research is occurring in these areas, and behind each one are several researchers who would like to see their addiction become officially recognized. In the interim, you will likely see clients in practice who experience one or more of these addictions, and that is why I have included them.
