The information in this book is designed to assist mathematics coaches in developing short- and long-term improvement plans. Coaches work with teachers and school leaders to determine the type of mathematics program desired. A high-quality mathematics program will be based on National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) principles of equity, curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment, and technology. Short-term goals usually aim to increase learning by current students, helping them succeed in their current classes and setting a foundation so that they can continue into advanced mathematics.
