Chesney, Maxine M. (1942-)

Maxine Mackler Chesney was born on October 29, 1942, in San Francisco, California. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1964. She went on to receive her juris doctor from Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law in 1967.

Chesney became a trial attorney with the San Francisco District Attorney's Office in 1968. From this start her rise through the ranks was rapid and impressive. She became Senior Trial Attorney in 1968, Principal Trial Attorney in 1971, Head Trial Attorney in 1976, and San Francisco Municipal Court judge in 1979.

Chesney was appointed to the San Francisco County Superior Court by Governor Jerry Brown on January 1, 1983, a post she held until 1995. President Bill Clinton then gave her a lifetime ...
