Bower, B. M., Aka Bertha Muzzy Sinclair (1871–1940)
B. M. Bower was a popular author and screenwriter. Born Bertha Muzzy in Cleveland, she moved to Montana as a small child. In Montana, she was able to experience ranch life firsthand and later put these experiences and people into the characters of her novels. She married Clayton J. Bower at the age of 18 and became a schoolteacher as well as the mother of three children. Her first published work was in the pulp magazine Popular in 1904, coming out in serial installments over 6 years. Her work was published under her initials and may have led readers to believe the author was a man, because women authors in the western genre were very rare.
