Berzon, Marsha L. (1945-)
Justice Marsha L. Berzon, a former labor lawyer, is a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which covers eight western states and Guam, and is best known for her 2-year-long confirmation process. Berzon received her law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1973. She went on to clerk for the Hon. James R. Browning of the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1973 to 1974 and then clerked for Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan Jr. until 1975. She went into private practice in Washington, D.C., with the firm of Woll & Mayer until 1977, and joined the notable labor firm of Altshuler, Berzon, Nussbaum, Berzon, & Rubin in 1978. The ...
