Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Survival rates are not uniform and vary by geographic location. The greatest number of breast cancer patients are in North America, northern and western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and in the South American countries of Uruguay and Argentina. Incidence rates in most southern and eastern European countries are low to intermediate, and throughout Africa, Asia, and most of Central and South America they are relatively low by comparison. Despite the lower incidence rates within low-and middle-income countries relative to their high-income counterparts, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that nearly 70 percent of all breast cancer deaths occur in low-and middle-income countries.
