Secondary Trauma among Medics and Corpsmen
Combat medics (Army/Air Force) and Navy corpsmen (Navy/Marines) are a highly specialized group of men and women who receive advanced medical training and serve as the primary lifeline for service members as a member of nearly all levels of combat operation. Within this self-selected group of experts, medics are a group of extremely vulnerable individuals who are regularly subjected to both primary trauma and secondary trauma. This entry examines secondary trauma among combat medics and Navy corpsmen. In this entry, the term medic will be used for both medics and corpsmen.
