Following the demise of the USSR in 1991, Russia started its integration into the global market economy, which has continued since. Therefore, different spheres of the country’s life are still in the process of being developed, including the tourism industry. On the one hand, the country is a fast-growing and important tourist source market. Since 1991, Russia has been one of the top 10 most visited countries in the world, and Russians are among the top 10 international tourists and spenders. On the other hand, the industry’s infrastructure, the service level, and the quality–price ratio are sometimes below the international standards, despite the state policy aimed at growing tourism to develop the economy.
