As a tourism destination, Portugal offers a mild climate, 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, and 850 kilometers (530 miles) of coastline. In 2013, the country counted a population of slightly fewer than 10.5 million people. According to a press release from Statistics Portugal, recent data from the World Tourism Organization indicates that in 2015, Portugal hosted 19.2 million tourists (16.3 million as hotel guests), totaling 53.2 million overnight stays (46.5 million hotel nights spent). Domestic tourism contributed 6.5 million guests.
