For thousands of years, people have lived alongside domesticated animals. Emotional bonds are particularly strong when it comes to companion animals, or pets. An increasing number of people consider their pets as family members. Thus, it is natural that people express a desire to bring pets along on family vacations. Traveling with pets refers to considering a pet’s needs while planning a trip, pet transportation to and from a tourist destination, a pet’s involvement in tourism activities, and other arrangements during a trip. The definition of traveling with pets excludes travel with service dogs, because these animals are typically exempt from rules and regulations that govern animal access to public facilities.
