Lebanon is a Middle Eastern country (10,452 km2) situated on the Eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa. It has borders with Syria and Israel and has a population of 6.2 million. Lebanon’s major cities are Beirut (the capital), Tripoli, Sidon, Tyre, and Zahle; all except Zahle are located on the seacoast. Lebanon enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with an average of 300 sunny days a year. The Lebanese countryside occupies the eastern part of the country; it is a place of rock formations, cedar trees, and ruins that look down from the mountains to the sea.
