The Caribbean country of Grenada is a tri-island state consisting of the islands of Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Also known as the Spice Isle due to the production of nutmeg and mace within the country, Grenada depends heavily on its tourism industry. However, tourism arrivals and revenue have been on the decline in Grenada since early in the 21st century. To counteract this decline, Grenada has turned its focus from marketing itself as a beach tourism destination to promoting its cultural and heritage characteristics. The country has also expanded its cruise ship tourism industry by welcoming larger cruise ships and more frequent cruises in an effort to recoup major losses of cruise ship tourists in recent years.
