Greece lies in the southeastern corner of Europe in the Mediterranean Basin and has emerged in the second half of the 20th century as a top 20 tourist destination worldwide. In 2015, Greece ranked 15th in the world in terms of tourist arrivals and 21st in terms of tourism receipts.

The popularity of Greece as a tourist destination lies in its rich cultural and historical heritage and foremost in its warm climate and natural beauties, including a great number of picturesque islands and clear-blue seas.
