Golf tourism refers to traveling to a destination and playing one or more rounds of golf, observing a golf tournament, or visiting golf-related attractions. For any given golf tourist trip, golf participation may be the primary reason for tourist travel or it may be secondary to other activities. Golf tourism is part of the larger field of sports tourism. Although there have likely been golf tourists since the development of the game of golf over 6 centuries ago, golf tourism was not established as a recognized industry until the last half of the 20th century.
