The accommodations or lodging sector of the hospitality and tourism industry has various types of facilities available to the traveling public, with each type catering to the needs of specific market segments. Hence, the sector offers lodging products (hotels and supporting services and facilities) for each member of the traveling public based on his or her travel needs, purpose of travel, and perception of value (the price paid to rent a room relative to the perceived quality of the room and services received). Several criteria determine how lodging accommodations are categorized and defined.
